Second installment of Tom Varndell's Hong Kong Sevens blog

Thursday 26 March 2009

During the 2009 Hong Kong Sevens, UR7s are providing behind the scenes access to England's Tom Varndell through his exclusive blog.

We have just returned to the hotel after beating Wales in our final pool match 26-19. We finished top of the pool and so tomorrow we face Fiji. I think beating the Rugby World Cup Sevens champions was a real highlight of the day and in our other two pool matches we played really well.

Tomorrow against Fiji we need remember how we played in the first two matches and in the first half of the Wales match and I think we will be fine. We know what we are capable of we just need to execute it for the whole match and not just the first half.

This is my second time in Hong Kong and it has been just as good, if not, better then the last time. This group of players are great fun to be with and we are a really tight knit squad. Also, the fans and the tournament has been fantastic, I thought the rain might dampen their spirits but it hasn’t they are just as vocal.

On Friday around 40 England Rugby Travel supporters came to watch us train in So Kong Po. It was really nice to see so many of them out, it really gave us a boost. We had some photos taken with them and stayed around after training for a chat.

I’m going to have an early night tonight and get ready for tomorrow - I can’t believe it’s already finals day!

 See you soon,

Tom
