Esher gunning for the title at Middlesex 7s

Esher have named a squad full of experience for this weekends Middlesex Sevens as they aim to take down the HFW Wailer in the first round before going on to challenge for the title.

Under the tuteliage of coach Chris Kibble, who as a player played in every round of the Middlesex 7s without winning the tournament whilst also playing in the Melrose 7s and winning the Amsterdam 7s. Kibble has guided Esher to becoming the most active professional club on the 7s circuit, competing in the European Club 7s in Russia last year and being an invitation team in both the National Series and Super Series at Rugby Rocks over the past 2 seasons. 

Esher have not been without success either, winning a number of tournaments including the inaugural London 7s that saw them qualify for the Twickenham showpiece alongside the Sunshine 7s.

Experienced 7s exponents include Jonny Hylton who has international honours and won the Dubai 7s with England in 2005, alongside him is Geoff Girffiths who has played for Samurai International all over the world whilst captaining them this year to a semi-final in Amsterdam.

One third of the squad originated from schools 7s powerhouse Wellington College, with Sam Stitcher and England 7s international Sam Edgerley winning the famous tournament, they are joined by schoolmates and mainstays of the Esher 7s team Tom Lozides who has been capped by Cyprus in 7s and  Dan Cervino both of which won Rosslyn Park schools alongside Stitcher.

The squad is capped off by Aaron Cruickshanks who also won the National Schools with Ivybridge Community College and the experienced Dave Slemen who has played his rugby at Harlequins and Orrell.

The Esher side is packed with excitement, power and pace and they are part of the pick of the first round games when they take on the inform HFW Wailers who have included former Esher boy Jamie Gibbs and current Esher powerhouse David Akinluyi. The winner of this tie will surely be competing for the title, whilst the loser will become favorites to take home the plate at Twickenham on Saturday
