With their victory in Heidelberg this weekend and their third place in Gdansk, Germany won the 7s Men’s European Championship Group A.
Germany will play in the GPS in 2012. Belgium came second and Sweden third and in Riga, Ukraine won the Women's Division A
In Heidelberg, Germany defeated Poland in the Final of the Cup (29-24). The winners of the first stage in Gdansk (Poland) were Belgium and in Heidelberg they lost the third place game against Sweden (29-12).
By one point, Belgium missed out on promotion to the 7s GPS in 2012 (33 points for Germany and 32 for Belgium) and it is therefore Germany that will play in 7s GPS next year. Sweden finishes third (31 points).
Cyprus, who were last in Gdansk, pulled it together in Heidelberg and won the Plate against Lithuania (17-12).
The Bowl was won by Czech Republic who beat Andorra (43-14) in the Final.
The last two nations after the two stages, Switzerland (3 points) and Croatia (5 points) will play in Division B next year. We'll have to wait until next week to know which nations will replace them; the winner of the tournament of Division B, that will be held in Riga (Latvia) the 9th and 10th July.
Last weekend, there was a Women’s Tournament in Riga. The winner of the Division A was Ukraine after its convincing win against Switzerland in the Final (41-0).
Both teams will be promoted to the Top 12 in 2012 (this is, however, subject to WRWC Seven's 2013 qualification format in 2012).
Austria won the Plate (10-5 vs. Belgium) and Latvia, the Bowl (14-0 vs. Malta). Andorra and Israel will play in Division B in 2012 while Poland and Denmark will take their place (subject to WRWC Seven's 2013 qualification format in 2012).
