After falling short in Gdansk in mid-june, when losing out to Sweden in the semi-final, Germany will be looking to go 2 stages further and win their home tournament in Heidelberg to give themselves a chance of overhauling Belgium and qualifying for the Grand Prix Sevens next season alongside the big boys.
The Germans have named a number of veterans in the line-up for the tournament on 2/3rd July, Coach Iansevici has many of his squad that have played in the Hannover Sevens in years past and this experience will benefit the Germans.
One of the major changes is in the play-maker position with the coach bringing in Chris Hilsenbeck who has been under the eye of the coach for a long time, Hilsenbeck replaces, Gilles Pagnon. Ianusevici said ""Gilles has the problem that after his appointment to the French Fed is not quite so fit and responsive third I need to
or a connector - for virtually the worst-case scenario"
Also dropped from the squad from Gdansk is Tim Box, Box had hoped to be fit for the tournament in Heidelberg in front of his home fans but they are taking no chances " "I guess Tim is very positive, but he has been in this situation before and after the tournament in Gdansk and with little or no training I need to be assured that all players will get through the day, since I cannot be sure on Tim its currently not safe. "
