Shane Christie will make his New Zealand Sevens debut after being called into Gordon Tietjens' squad to replace Declan O’Donnell for the final two tournaments of the 2010/11 HSBC Sevens World Series.
O'Donnell, New Zealand's joint top try scorer this season with 26 and third in the overall standings behind Cecil Afrika (34) and Seremaia Burotu (29), has been ruled out due to injury and is one of two changes ahead of the 2011 Emirates Airline London and Edinburgh Sevens on 21-22 and 28-29 May respectively.
David Raikuna, who was part of the squad that won the 2011 NZI Sevens in Wellington, replaces Rory Grice in the other change, as New Zealand look to secure their ninth World Series title.
Tietjens' side currently lead the World Series by 13 points following their most recent victory in Adelaide and the head coach is satisfied with the consistency of his team's performance this season.
“We have won four out of the six tournaments this year and it is great to be going into these final two tournaments in the lead, but we know that any of the top five teams can win these tournaments so we can’t be complacent," said Tietjens.
“England is still a real threat to us and we will need to perform at the top of our game to secure the Series title."
New Zealand's last World Series title was in 2008, however, but they will be looking to win their first title in London since 2007 to extend their lead at the top.
They are joined in Pool A by Kenya, Spain and reigning Rugby World Cup Sevens champions Wales.
New Zealand Sevens squad for London and Edinburgh:
Toby Arnold (Bay of Plenty), Tomasi Cama (Manawatu), Shane Christie (Tasman), Scott Curry (Bay of Plenty), DJ Forbes, captain (Counties Manukau), Frank Halai (Waikato), Bryce Heem (Auckland), Solomon King (North Harbour), Tim Mikkelson (Waikato), Buxton Popoalii (Otago), Lote Raikabula (Manawatu), David Raikuna (North Harbour)
