The 44th annual Denver 7s Rugby Tournament will be hosted by the Denver 7s Rugby Tournament, LLC at Dicks Sporting Goods Park on July 23, 2011 8 am to 5 pm. The 22 grass fields at Dicks are flat, professionally lined with top class amenities and are known around the world due to the use by the Churchill Cup in recent years.
A major regional 7s Tournament first played in 1968, for teams from around the U.S. In 2011 teams are expected from all over the states including Arizona, California, Colorado, Kansas, Illinois, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Utah and Texas.
With Denver being a West RFU Super Regional qualifier for the 2011 USA Rugby National Men’s Club 7s Championship there is plenty at stake as sides to battle to qualify for the 'big dance'.
The event attracts some of the top 7s teams in the US and also provides playing opportunities for all levels of competition. Projected brackets include: 12 team Men’s Qualifier, 12 team Men’s Collegiate, 8 team Women’s, 12 team Men’s Social, 12 team HS/U19s Boys & Girls and well as Youth League participants.
In 2010 the Denver 7s Rugby Tournament attracted 40 teams from 8 states. The 2011 tournament is expected to attract more than 50 sides from further afield with 600 - 700 Participants & Coaches expected whilst 400 - 500 Spectators will be savouring the Colorado sun and some great rugby
