Thursday 3 March 2011 (Abbottsford Sevens)

Canada’s largest international rugby sevens tournament is back for its third year in a row. On Feb. 16, the Abbotsford Sevens held its kick-off event at RSA Academy and announced the international teams that have registered to date.

The 2011 teams include: Tongan Ambassadors (New Zealand), British Army (United Kingdom), Canadian Maple Leafs (Canada), Fijian Ambassadors (Fiji), Global Fijian Samurai, Mexico (Mexico), Dog River Howlers (Canada), Burnaby Lake Lighthouse (Canada), Kenya Shujaa (Kenya), Old Puget Sound (United States) and Valley High (Canada).

The world famous Waisale Serevi will be coaching Old Puget Sound where he is now director of rugby after arriving in the States in February during the Las Vegas 7s.

The Abbotsford Sevens will be taking place on July 23.

A statement issued by the Abbotsford Sevens Executive Committee said, "Abbotsford International Sevens humbly began with hosting two international teams from Kenya and the West Indies. Now in our third year, we are excited to say that we can already confirm the participation of eight amazing international teams and know that more are in the process of making the arrangements to come here. Abbotsford Sevens has grown to include the B.C. Summer Sevens Series circuit, and we are grateful to be sanctioned by the B.C. Rugby Union and Rugby Canada."

The Abbotsford Sevens is a sport and entertainment festival complemented by exhibitions, live entertainment, renowned DJs, the Russell Club House, an ethnic food fair, a family fun zone, a week of after-parties and so much more.
