Turbo-charged HFW Wailers hunt Dubai title

Tuesday 30 November 2010 (UR7s)

The HFW Wailers, part of the National Sevens Series, have picked a hugely exciting squad for the upcoming Dubai Sevens.

The world famous invitational event, which runs alongside the main HSBC Sevens World Series, has seen some of the game’s great players participate in its forty year history which kicks off on Thursday (Dec 2).

The Wailers finished third on this summer’s inaugural National Series in the UK with club stalwarts like Arron Meyers, Hamish Smales and England man David Akinluyi all set to be involved in the desert.

With player availability difficult for UK sides at this time of year the North-East based team has had to draft in some talented players from various London clubs.

There is pace in abundance thanks to London Irish’s Sam Edgerley Fylde's Nick Royle with National Series standout James Stephenson also included.

Try-machine Tyson Lewis returns to Wailers colours with White Hart Marauders player-coach Howard Graham also involved.

Peceli Nakamavuto will provide some X Factor with the influential Welsh international Nick Wakely another crucial acquisition for the team that will be coached by Saracens Academy Director, Jan Bonney.

National Series runners-up the British Army will also participate in the International Invitational tier along with defending champions the International Marauders – a second string South Africa outfit.

The Wailers are pooled with Georgia and physical Russian opponents Yug in the preliminary stages and will look to build on last year’s semi-final run. The Army face Kenya club side Homboyz, Welwitschias (Namibia) and Spartak MG in their group.
