La Manga Superstar Sevens will return for its second installment in 2011 - bringing another weekend of fun in the sun from 10-12 June.
Last year saw the inaugural event, co-organised by England and Saracens star David Strettle, bring social sides to Spain’s luxurious 5-Star with women’s netball and golf also on the menu.
La Manga Club is renowned as one of the world's finest all-round sports and leisure resorts. Nestled in Murcia, on sunny south-eastern Spain’s Costa Calida, the resort is just over two hours flight from the UK and the two local airports of Murcia and Alicante are served by a number of low cost airlines.
Last year saw Blue Storm romp to victory in the men’s competition watched by numerous well-known players from the English Premiership, enjoying some postseason rest and relaxation.
“The first year was brilliant! The great thing about the tournament is that everybody stays on site and it means that everybody gets to know each other over the course of the weekend,” said David Strettle.
“We had great feedback after the event, backed up by the fact that every team who attended has booked again for this year,” added the former England Sevens man.
This year Strettle hopes to be able to expand the tournament with further teams already added to join the festivities. An official golf tournament will now take place especially to cater for the professional players flying out.
La Manga boasts a choice of three superb 18-hole championship courses that attracts an influx of sporting-mad holidaymakers each year.
Strettle believes the Superstar Sevens’ competitive prices make the weekend’s action a genuine bargain with 2011 places already filling fast.
“La Manga Club offers world class facilities. Due to the time of year they are also available at affordable prices.
“It’s my belief is if you fill that venue with rugby and netball teams then you have the foundations of a great sports weekend and tour. Due to the success of last year we will be looking to get all teams booked up by the new year.”
