DJ Forbes' hopes of captaining the New Zealand at next month's Commonwealth Games have received a timely boost.
The inspirational sevens forward was today named at blindside flanker for Counties Manukau's national provincial championship match against Bay of Plenty in Mt Maunganui on Sunday.
Forbes, 27, had been sidelined with osteitis pubis since the sevens world series circuit finished in May, the painful groin injury meaning he could barely run let alone play a game of rugby.
Last week Forbes was cautious about his chances of being fit for the Games, but his rehabilitation has gone well and Counties Manukau coach Milton Haig has promoted him to the starting team ahead of schedule.
New Zealand will chase their fourth consecutive Games gold medal when the two-day tournament begins in New Delhi on October 11.
