HFW Wailer Scott Riddell has been called into the Scotland Rugby Sevens squad for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
The 24-year-old was originally left out of the squad but has been drafted in as a replacement for Dave Callam, who has been ruled out of the competition (11-12 October) with a knee injury.
The experienced Riddell was part of Scotland's Plate-winning squad in the 2009 Rugby Sevens World Cup and has represented his country at five IRB Sevens World Series tournaments. He proved an inspirational figure for the HFW Wailers during the UK Summer, captaining them throughout the inaugural National Sevens Series and the Middlesex Sevens at Twickenham.
"It's obviously disappointing to lose Dave [Callam] from the squad and we wish him a speedy recovery," said coach Stephen Gemmell.
"Scott Riddell has been an integral part of our rugby sevens squad to date and I'm confident he can do his country proud in Delhi."
Forbes still a doubt
New Zealand Captain DJ Forbes has joined fellow-veteran Tomasi Cama on the injury list and in a tight race to be fit for the Commonwealth Games.
Forbes has barely run, let alone played a game of rugby, since New Zealand completed their World Series campaign in May.
He is struggling to overcome osteitis pubis, a painful groin injury which requires ample rest.
He has been unable to train or play for Counties Manukau in the national provincial championship and couldn't rule out being dropped from coach Gordon Tietjens' squad.
"Potentially, there could be a chance," Forbes told NZPA.
"In terms of the rehab they predicted I'd be back on track in 2-3 weeks from now, around the time of our final camp.
"I'm pretty confident I'll be available but the question is how effective I can be and what percentage I can play at.”
New Zealand will chase their fourth consecutive Games gold medal when the two-day tournament begins in New Delhi.
