The Singapore Cricket Club has unveiled a high quality line-up for this year’s SCC Rugby 7s taking place on 5-7 November.
Asia’s oldest sevens competition has a new-look with the tournament now spread across three days with an expanded pool of 28 teams set to battle in the main competition for the Ablitt Cup.
A quality field has been assembled by organisers with defending champions South Africa (Vipers) being joined by other national sides Japan, Hong Kong, USA, Namibia and Sweden.
HSBC Penguins, one of the most exciting and successful invitational sides in the world, are poised to make their Singapore debut. Fijian club Devatelavu and New Zealand’s Ponsoby, renowned clubs with a rich history in rugby sevens, are also included along with hosts Singapore.
Singapore Cricket Club, which has previously hosted IRB Sevens, will also include a first ever international Ladies tournament and the Singapore National Schools and Colleges 7s championship for the weekend’s action.
With continued expansion of the tournament, several broadcast partners have come on board to support the development of rugby in Singapore. The finals of the tournament will be screened live in Singapore by local channel SuperSports Arena, while World Sports Group will produce highlights packages to be distributed around the region and beyond.
AXN, the English language entertainment channel, has also become the first ever lifestyle TV partner.
