more »Key weekend in the Kenyan National Circuit at the Dala Sevens
38 points are on offer in the Western Union National Sevens Circuit this weekend as 32 teams duel it out over 48 matches to decide who will be the 2010 Dala Sevens Champion.
The competing teams will be in eight groups with four teams in each, with only the group winners securing passage to the quarter finals of the cup and a chance of winning the title.
With Mwamba and Quins locked in a tight race for the 2010 National title, events in Kisumu on 4th and 5th September 2010 could dramatically alter the circuit standings, Impala and Nakuru, semi finalists in the opening two legs are closing in on the top 2. They came agonizingly close to reaching the Prinsloo Sevens final and will be looking to go one better at Dala this weekend.
Current National Sevens Circuit champions Strathmore Leos have bowed out at the quarter final stage of the opening two rounds of the circuit in Nairobi and Nakuru, going on to win the plate on both occasions but will be looking to return to their 2009 form this weekend in making an impact in the latter stages of the tournament.
KCB, Homeboyz and Mean Machine will all be looking to qualify for the quarter finals, giving themselves a chance to go all the way and impact on the overall standings.
There is a strong representation from fledgling sides such as Nakuru Mtaa, Greenfields RFC, Kisii RFC, Molo RFC and the Law School in Dala showing once again the strength of Kenyan 7s and the rapid growth of the game on the back of the success of the National side at IRB level.
Kisumu’s Paul Dan Okong’o has assured the rugby fraternity that his club (Dala) has the capacity to hold what is now Kenya’s largest sevens rugby tournament in terms of participating teams.
