Munster ready for Meteor Sevens

Wednesday 18 August 2010 (UR7s)

The Munster Branch of the IRFU today officially launched the fourth annual Meteor Munster Rugby Sevens Cup. This year's event will take place this Saturday (August 21) in Garryowen FC, Limerick City, between midday and 6pm.

Every county in the province will be represented as all of Munster’s top clubs, including AIB League champions Shannon and defending Meteor Munster Sevens champions Thomond, will all battle it out for the 2010 Meteor Munster Sevens title.

Taking part in the competition as well this year will be junior clubs and women’s club teams from across the province, all of whom will be competing in their respective divisions with 70 matches taking place over the day.

“It is fantastic to see both Munster Rugby and Meteor coming together again to support the domestic club game,” said Ultan O’ Callaghan, Munster Rugby’s Domestic Rugby Manager.

“Sevens rugby is an ideal platform for both adult retention and the talent development of provincial players and was given a huge boost in profile now being included in the 2016 Olympic Games.

“We look forward to showcasing the skill and ability that these players have to offer at this year’s Meteor Munster Sevens Tournament”.
