Six English clubs will clash tonight (Friday) at Bath's Recreation Ground for the final of the J.P. Morgan Premiership Rugby Sevens Series.
Harlequins, Saracens, Sale Sharks, Newcastle Falcons, Northampton Saints and Exeter Chiefs all made it through the regional qualifiers and will go head-to-head for the inaugural crown.
The six teams have been split into two pools with the two group winners going on to meet each other in the winner-takes-all final.
Saints, Sharks and Saracens have been drawn in Pool A with Quins, Falcons and the Chiefs to battle it out in Pool B.
Northampton, who booked their spot at their home ground during last Friday’s final heat, will again have access to a host of England Sevens players.
Tom Powell, John Brake, James Rodwell and Simon Hunt feature as guests once more with a further boost coming from the inclusion of Greg Barden.
Another England international on show will be flying winger Nick Royle, drafted into Sale’s line-up. Josh Fowles, who starred for the Gilbert Pups in the National Series this summer, offers more options outside with USA Eagles scrum-half Mike Petri set to be a threat. Young forward Henry Thomas is one name for the future.
Kevin Barrett will lead a talented Saracens side with the likes of Nils Mordt, Don Barrell and Noah Cato supporting the England half-back.
Andrew Higgins made his playing return for Exeter last weekend after completing a drugs ban, but the former Bath wing is unavailable for the final. Fiji international Josh Matavasi impressed for the Premiership new boys last time along with impressive young guns Mike Canty and Rob Coote.
Newcastle will again utilise a number of players from invitational sevens specialists, HFW Wailers. With brother Jack unavailable, exciting sevens nomad Hamish Smales is added to the squad. Rob Vickerman and Charlie Amesbury are key inclusions for the Falcons who head to the Rec as one of the more fancied sides.
Harlequins have not officially revealed their side but will likely feature promising youngsters such as Sam Smith, Miles Mantella and JJ Kilmartin. Evergreen player-coach Howard Graham adds the experience.
