Guyana have won the North America and Caribbean Rugby Association (NACRA) women’s Sevens title with an exciting 14-12 win over Trinidad & Tobago (T&T) in the final.
It was their third successive regional Sevens title and also matched the achievements of their male equivalents who took Sevens gold at the CACSO Games on Sunday.
Remarkably Guyana only conceded their first points of the tournament in the final. They found themselves 0-12 to a rampant T&T outfit early on with scores for Jenilee Limada and Juliana Straker. But Guyana showed their mental resilience to hit back in the second period.
A try to Davison pulled one score back for Guyana to set an frenetic climax. Collette Hope proved the match-winner, scoring under the uprights and then converting her try to seal the 14-12 victory.
In the first semi-final T&T took and early 12-0 lead against Jamaica, through a Straker effort with Dalia Jordon-Brown adding a second. Lisa Fraser pulled a try back for Jamaica in the second half with Anna-Kay Morrison adding the conversion to make it 12-7. Despite further Jamaica pressure, T&T held on for a memorable win.
Guyana were heavy favourites in the second last four clash with St.Lucia and quickly established a 14-0 half-time advantage. Despite some determined defence from St Lucia a second converted try for Sabola Gray booked Guyana a meeting with T&T.
In the third and fourth play-off Jamaica powered past St Lucia (22-0) with Mexico beating the Cayman Islands (26-5) to clinch fifth.
Day 1 had seen a round-robin format for the sixth teams present. Despite being held to a remarkable 0-0 draw against Jamaica, Guyana went through to the knockouts as top seeds. The Jamaicans had earlier ground out another draw (5-5) against T&T, highlighting the competitiveness between all the the teams.
Overall Standings:
1. Guyana (#1 post round-robin)
2. Trinidad & Tobago (#3 post round-robin)
3. Jamaica (#2 post round-robin)
4. St Lucia (#4 post round-robin)
5. Mexico
6. Cayman Islands

Its a good time for Rugby Union in the Caribbean. With RU being an Olympic sport now, we need to attract elite athletes and sponsorship in the terroitories.
