Kenyan Rugby Union has revealed the dates for the upcoming 2010 Kenyan National Sevens Circuit.
Now into its twelfth season the Kenyan circuit will again seek to capitalise on the ever-growing popularity of the sport in the country.
This season sees the Series taking place across August and September following the restructuring of the Kenyan rugby calendar with two events in Nairobi and Nakuru, Kisumu and Mombasa also playing hosts.
Last year saw an enthralling climax with title contenders Stathmore Leos and Kenya Harlequins RFC going head-to-head for the overall title at the final leg in Drfitwood. A Mitch Ocholla coached Leos took the major honours and the local bragging rights in a finish similar to the recent National Sevens Series in the UK.
The National Sevens Circuit has over the years played a crucial role in identifying Kenyan rugby talent. The likes of Benjamin Ayimba, Oscar Osir ,Felix Ochieng, Victor Sudi, Sidney Ashioya and Humphrey Kayange all made their names on the local circuit.
With the Commonwealth Games on the horizon (October 11-12) the involvement of marquee Shuuja players is yet unknown.
Siaya KMTC, Kitale RFC, Kimathi University and the giant killing Masinde Muliro University may be relatively new to the abbreviated code, but are teams with the capabilities of upsetting the established clubs.
