Pesamino joins Sale Sharks

Wednesday 7 July 2010 (UR7s)

Samoa sevens star Mikaele Pesamino has signed professional terms with English Premiership club Sale Sharks.

The 26-year-old was in outstanding form last season picking up the IRB Sevens World Player of the Year award thanks to a remarkable tally of 56 tries.

His form was one of the major factors that propelled Samoa to the overall 09/10 IRB Sevens crown.

It is not yet know whether he will be part of the Samoa's Commonwealth Games squad in October, but it appears unlikely he will be involved in the early stages of next season's World Series.

Pesamino also has five Test caps within the 15-a-side set-up and recently scored Samoa’s winning Pacific Nations Cup title showdown with Fiji. He joins Sale from Auckland in New Zealand where he has played provincial rugby since 2007.

"Mikaele is incredibly quick and has wanted to play in the Premiership,” said Sale Head Coach Mike Brewer.

“He had the choice of joining other clubs in the UK but he has chosen Sale Sharks and I am sure our supporters will be very impressed with him."

Sale Sharks were in action last weekend at the Manchester Sevens bowing out at the quarter-finals stage to core side the Gilbert Pups.
