more »Calgary ready for Stampede Sevens
The 38th annual Stampede Sevens kicks off on Saturday (July 10) at the Calgary Rugby Union. This event is one of the biggest rugby events in Canada and it attracts teams from all over the country, as well as the USA and further afield.
This year’s tournament will feature some of the greatest players to have ever played for Canada and the United States at the international level. Winston Stanley, who earned 66 caps for Canada, will try and lead a team of past international players including Fred Asselin, Nik Witowski, Morgan Williams and Jeff Williams to become the 2010 Champions.
The Premier Division will showcase some of the best sevens you will see played in Canada. The Howlers, with home grown international talent, are one of the favourites. Defending champions, the Cannibals, with a strong South-Sea influence, are again expected to feature in the latter stages on the Saturday.
