UR7s can reveal the provisional squads for the second leg of the National Series at the West Country Sevens which starts tomorrow (June 19).
Keynsham RFC hosts the nine core sides that make up the Series along with three other guest sides.
Last week saw the opening leg of this inaugural initiative at London’s RugbyRocks with Samurai International winning the Cup and securing themselves a maximum 20 points.
Group A: Samurai International, Apache, Raging Bull Ronin
Apache have kept faith with the majority of their squad from RugbyRocks but welcome the return of a fully fit Richard Briggs. The Irish international will bring a further cutting edge and experience to the side.
Top seeds Samurai have bolstered their squad considerably with the inclusion three players who have been involved in this season’s IRB Sevens World Series.
Flyer Dan Norton (England), Jake Abbott (England), and half-back Lee Rees (Wales) all join up with the side that will co-coached by Russell Earnshaw and Wales’ Paul John.
Raging Bull Ronin are yet to register a National Series win but have drafted in Zimbabwe-born winger Prince Moyo, who won the Men’s Open with Kamikaze last week.
Group B: British Army, Trust PA Cavaliers, Gilbert Pups
Fiji international Apolosi Satala makes his first appearance on the National Series debut for the British Army. The Gilbert Pups bring in Neville Edwards and James Stephenson, who were both part of the Esher squad that made the RugbyRocks final last week.
Group C: HFW Wailers, Olorun ID, Shamrock Warriors
Third seeds HFW Wailers impressed last week with speedster Tyson Lewis and Scotland international Scott Riddell key influences. Tongan Samiuela Atiola is a new addition for Andy Howells and Mark Laycock’s side.
Tom Jarvis, who has recently from England Counties duty, teams up with Olorun ID who won the Plate in Richmond last week. The Shamrock Warriors include many of the players that were involved with the Irish Raiders last week with Hugh Hogan again captaining the guest team.
Group D: Akuma Smurfs, WH Marauders, Les Bleus
The White Hart Marauders have revealed an exciting line-up again, balancing youth and experience. Internationals Zach Test (USA) and Ifan Evans (Wales) are included for the first time this year along with promising youngsters Miles Mantella and Jack Walsh who did not feature in London.
Akuma Smurfs were a surprise package last week with the Welsh side adding Alex Williams and Owen Broad to their squad for tomorrow.
Les Bleus, a development side to the French Sevens team, fill the third guest spot themselves including five internationals, one of whom, Jean-Baptiste Aldige, who played for Samurai at Bury earlier this season.
