An Australian VII won a Trans-Tasman battle to clinch the 2010 Roma Sevens title at the weekend.
Coming off the back of a hugely impressive IRB Sevens World Series campaign, the Australians had the edge over all their opponents, before beating a New Zealand All-Star VII (Modula Roma Seven) 47-17.
Using the same players that had won the London Sevens and finished runners-up in Edinburgh, Australia were ruthless in a one-sided final.
The Kiwis, led by DJ Forbes, were involved in an exciting semi-final with Spain, only just winning 10-0 against a side that has picked up two stages on this season’s FIRA Sevens.
National Sevens Series core side, the British Army, battled through to the semi-finals, before being undone 0-38 by the Aussies. With the first leg of the inaugural National Series (in association with UR7s) just five days away at London’s RugbyRocks, the Army can take confidence from a good weekend’s showing to back up their Bournemouth win from the previous week.
They showed their mettle in overcoming France 14-7 in the quarter-finals and topped their pool on Saturday with wins over Fiamme Oro (40-0), Templars (21-14), and Mels Exiles (35-12).
The Marauders were also in action ahead of RugbyRocks, sending a young side to Italy that won the Shield, beating Atlantis 35-5. On the opening day the Marauders were just pipped by Fiji Uprising (12-10) during the pool stages.
France overcame the Fiji Uprising to take the Plate in a low scoring affair, whilst Mels Exiles overcame Porta Portese Force XV Froggies to win the Bowl.
There was European success in the Women’s competition where the hotly tipped New Zealand Aotearoa lost out to France 5-19. The Kiwis had knocked out Italy in the semi-finals with the French just beating Spain, 12-7 in the other last four clash.
HJMKJ Moscow beat Colombia to triumph in the Bowl competition.

I'm not sure where you got your information from regarding the women's final at the Roma 7's. Aotearoa (NZ) Maori beat France 19 - 5, not the other way around as you have reported!
Reply | Report this PostFrance scored first, but were never in it from there as Aotearoa Maori dominated every facet of the game.
It is disappointing that a website that claims to be the sports most comprehensive source of information and news, does not check the accuracy of their information before presenting it as fact.
As coach of the Aotearoa Maori women's team, i can assure you that we did in fact win the Roma 7's, and have the trophy and photos to prove it. I hope that you will correct your report as it has raised concerns / queries from our sponsors and supporters who rely on your website for accurate results from tournament that otherwise do not receive media coverage in our part of the world.
