The SA Emerging Sevens team will be aiming to reclaim the Safaricom Sevens when the popular event is again staged in Nairobi, Kenya from on June 4-6.

The South African youngsters won the title in 2007 but have had to play second fiddle to Kenya's 'Shuuja' over the last few years.

Twelve players has been cut down from an original squad of of 18 and will assemble in Stellenbosch on Monday where they will attend a brief training camp under the watchful eye of coach, Arthur Janson before flying out to Kenya next Thursday.

Several current Springbok Sevens stalwarts such as Mzwandile Stick, Frankie Horne, Vuyo Zangqa, Norman Nelson and more recently, Cecil Afrika, came through the Emerging ranks on their way to the IRB Sevens World Series.

Zimbabwe and Kenya will be fielding their full Series squads while the likes of Fiji, Samoa and Argentina will also send strong representative teams.

“The tournament is known for producing top-quality Sevens and we are looking forward to test our next generation of youngsters against some very experienced teams. We had two good training camps in Stellenbosch and I am satisfied with our preparations thus far,” said Janson.

Included in the side is the exciting Earl Lewis, who has lit up the Melrose Sevens with the University of Johannesburg over the last couple of years.

Sixteen teams will battle it out for one of Africa’s most prized Sevens titles. The senior South Africa Sevens team secured their best result of the 2009/10 IRB Sevens World Series at the weekend, finishing runners-up to Australia in London.
