1PWRR grab Ashby title

Thursday 20 May 2010 (UR7s)

Army based team 1PWRR proved too just too strong at the seventh Ashby Sevens in the UK.

They beat a strong West Country Cavaliers, who included former Samoan Sevens international Junior Tupai, in the final at the tournament in North West Leicestershire to walk away with the £1500 first prize.

Marchwood Sharks, KS Crusaders, West Country Cavaliers, 1PWRR, Marauders, Redingsians and Carmarthen Warriors were the Cup quarter-finalists on the day.

National Sevens Series core team Raging Bull Ronin faced injury struggles on the day and had to settle for the Plate, where they were runners-up to DMP 7's (Darlington Mowden Park).

1PWRR are based in Germany but possessed players in their squad who could well feature for the Army during the UK’s inaugural Series, starting at RugbyRocks on June 12th.

Saracens’ Senior side might be in the Guinness Premiership Final but the future looks bright also for the North London club following their victory in last weekend’s Under-19 National Academy Sevens.

The side won their pool group matches against Bristol and Bedford before beating Leeds Carnegie 26-22 in the quarter-finals. Defending champions Leicester were edged 14-12 in the semi-finals before sweeping aside London Irish 36-14 in the final.
