more »Irish influence for Canada on IRB Sevens

Canada will have to once again deal with a much changed line-up heading into the final rounds of the IRB Sevens World Series in London (22-23 May) and Edinburgh (29-30 May).
Morgan Williams’ side have made seven changes from the side that beat Wales to the Bowl in Hong Kong in March.
Ryan Wilkes, Keegan Selby, Justin Mensah-Coker, Neil Meechan, Bryn Keys, Ben Johnson, and Zack Farivarz,
Farivarz’s inclusion is an interesting one with the 23-year-old being raised in Ireland and representing Blackrock RFC and Leinster (U19,U20).
Born in Toronto, but raised in Ireland, Farivaz originally contacted coach Morgan Williams by email to make him and Rugby Canada aware of his intentions to become a Maple Leaf.
"Zack is a player playing at a high level," says Williams, "and he's very physical and has a great understanding of the game."
Farivarz will return to his native Canada at the end of May, where he will play for the Rock in Newfoundland as part of the 2010 Canadian Rugby Championship series.
Ben Johnson is another 15-a-side player attempting to make a successful transistion to rugby sevens, with the mobile forward hoping his size can provide a different dimension to the side.
“Everyone is a bit smaller and will be more mobile but I hope I can make an impact with a crash-line to get us forward. It is fun to be back with Canada and this will be my first sevens tour so I’m really excited. I’m looking forward to the experience and contributing to the team, said Johnson.”
Canada have already started preparing for the long term goal of Olympic ascendancy at the 2016 Olympics. Williams has blooded several promising teenagers including Keaton Styles (18), Taylor Paris (17) , Dustin Dobravsky (17) Sean Ferguson (19) and now Ryan Wilkes (18).
Canada face Fiji, South Africa, and France on the opening day at the London Sevens starting this Saturday.
