UK Clubs and Universities battle it out

Millfield Old Boys are out to defend their Middlesex Club Sevens title at the UK’s Richmand’s Athletic Ground in West London on Saturday.

Inspired by current England Sevens playmaker Ollie Lindsey-Hague, ‘Miffy’ were a class above their rivals, beating Rosslyn Park 34-22 to lift the title.

This weekend sees them line-up in what could a hugely competitive Pool A with London Cornish, Saracens Amateurs, and recent Surrey Floodlit Plate winners, London Irish Amateurs.

Redingensians, fresh from victory in Windsor last weekend, will look to dominate Pool E with Esher also looking strong with Mark Odejobi on loan from London Wasps in their squad.

Ten sides will also battle it out for the Men’s Vase Competition, with plenty of student sides also heading in attendance. Imperial College will defend their Men’s Student Cup with Royal Holloway the favourites to lift the Women’s Student title.

BUCS titles up for grabs

Sunday also sees the 2010 British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Rugby Sevens Championships taking place at Chinnor RFC, Oxfordshire this Bank Holiday weekend, Sunday 2 May.

The event is the culmination of the university rugby sevens league and brings together the top student teams from around the UK. Seventeen men’s and nine women’s team will be hosted by Chinnor as they battle to win the Championship trophy.

The University of Exeter will be fighting to retain the Men’s Championship title with the likes of UWIC, Loughborough, and Hartbury their main challengers. 

Leeds Met Carnegie are back to defend the women’s title they won last year. The tournament kicks off at 10am.
