Redingensians stun Dolphins at Windsor Sevens

Tuesday 27 April 2010 (UR7s)

Suprise finalists Redingensians edged past Marchwood Dolphins to win the Windsor Sevens on Saturday.

It was heartbreak for the Dolphins who were also runners-up last year and were marginal favourites heading into the afternoon’s final game at the third running of the tournament.

Earlier on the Dolphins had put out the talented Apache 21-14 in the first semi-final with Redingensians edging the Covenant Brothers (recent semi-finalists at Pocklington) by 21 – 19 in the second semi-final.

Apache romped to a 38-14 win over Ruislip in the first quarter-final, with Bristol University, preparing for this weekend’s National University Sevens, looked good until getting taught a lesson by the Covenant Brothers in the last eight losing 26-19. The Touraid Castaways felt the force of the Dolphins, soundly beaten 43-7 in another quarter-final with Redingensians overcoming Twickenham 26-19 at the same stage.

The Badgers beat Global Ticka 33-26 to lift the Plate with The Prawns, understandably jaded after their run at the previous nights Surrey Sevens, only mustering the Vase beating the hosts Windsor 28-14.

The Wolfpack Sevens bought up a half-century in a free flowing Shield final winning 54-24.

The Ladies’ Cup was won by Richmond for the third successive year beating the Pirates by 19 – 12.
