Friday 05 October 2012

Kenya coach Mike Friday has named his squad of 12 to compete at the Gold Coast Sevens, the opening round of the 2012/2013 HSBC Sevens World Series.

19 year old Cyprian Kuto, Eden Agero and Davis Chenge earn their maiden series call ups to a squad that also includes the experienced quartet of captain Andrew Amonde, 2008/2009 series top try scorer Collins Injera, Biko Adema and Horace Otieno.

Addressing the press at the RFUEA Grounds on Friday 5 October 2012, Friday said, "“We are here to build something for Kenya and this is a journey for us. We are looking for consistency in performance and results. It was difficult selecting the final twelve owing to intense competition within the team. The selection was based on varied factors including ability to read the game, balance in positioning, the blend between players, combinations, conditioning and strength."

Kenya Rugby Union Chairman Mwangi Muthee said, "We are building structures for posterity. We will face challenges along the way but soon the results will out there for all to see.We are very grateful to the team sponsors Kenya Airways for their continued support of the team."

Stella Wekesa, representing Kenya Airways, wished the team well, urging them to turn out a great performance.
