Jeez, i'm cracker-jacked. Pretty chuffed for Samoa, so often they lose out in the final of these affairs but that was hugely deserved. Wellington and Las Vegas, it's been a couple of pulsating weekends. Bring on Adelaide/Hong Kong as we enter the second half of the season.

It's Valentines Day party time for everyone now in the City of Sin. Las Vegas watch out...thanks for following UR7s Live Textonians. See you very soon. Out.

20:32

2010 USA Sevens Winners:

Cup - Samoa
Plate - South Africa
Bowl - USA
Shield - Scotland

20:29

Barney, Sydney, Australia:
Brilliant scenes! How open is the IRB Sevens! Samoa were awesome and for me its Uale Mai who is the main man. Immense

Agreed Barney, just heard he has confirmed he will play for the rest of the season...

20:27

2009/10 IRB Sevens World Series:

New Zealand 84
Samoa 70
Fiji 68
England 50
Australia 44
South Africa 36
Argentina 22
Wales 18

20:08

We have a Samoan pitch invasion, as their fans pile onto the pitch in Vegas. Amazing scenes, pure pure joy. It's their first win since London 2008 when they beat Fiji.

Lolo Lui get the champagne spraying and lift the trophy. Its party time in Vegas baby. Samoa are in the IRB Sevens World Series mix. Carange on the pitch as the Samoan players are mobbed!

20:03

Cup Final – New Zealand v Samoa

Epic stuff from Uale Male – Samoa’s petite generale – floating a beauty of a pass to Fa’osiliva to open the scoring. That’s his sixth try. Samoa not getting any luck with some decisions at breakdown time. Awesome work from Cama, injecting over the gain-line and when it come back the other way its Baker soaring through. Magnificent kick from Cama. 7-7. Suit you sir, some handbags between Baker and Aiono. Baker is now throwing a horribly telegraphed pass and Pesamino picks it and goes in from 70m. 14-12 to Samoa.

How resilient can NZ be? Fa’osiliva makes another break and he’s outstanding. That’s another try to him and a two-try cushion for Samoa. 21-7. Great work from Raikabula and its Baker throwing a purler of a long pass to Mikkelson and NZ score. 21-12 for Samoa, still work to do for NZ. Is that the back breaker? Cama is dispossessed and Aiona finds Levasa and its 26-12 to Samoa in Vegas. Cama goes for broke and throws a speculator (extreme even for Vegas) but it’s picked by guess who...Pesamino. Another try to him and Samoa up 33-12.

Result: New Zealand 12 Samoa 33

19:39

New Zealand or Samoa for the riches here in Las Vegas. It doesn't get any bigger or more big time then this. It's going to be close. Can New Zealand build a cushion in the IRB or will Samoa overtake Fiji into second place. Squeaky bum time....

Atmopshere is top draw.

19:36

NEWS ALERT:

New Zealand has got a bit of a injury/suspension situation before their final. Save Tokula has received a six match ban for his pole-axing tackle earlier today on SA. Stowers had a dodgy ankle and Souness is also injured. All three miss the final and they are down to just two replacements. Will that be an issue. Hooter goes and SA are shattered, Ryder makes a break and it looks like is in but no he checks and eventually a forward pass means it’s plate time for SA. Finally they beat Fiji this season!

Tom, Spain:
Following on the Live Text, epic work UR7s! My heart says Samoa, My head New Zealand

19:34

Plate Final – South Africa v Fiji

SA held up and form a resulting a scrum it’s that danger man Afrika who goes over. That’s his 6th of the tournament – he’s scored in every game. Stunningly quick off the mark, Boks really pressuring and not afraid in going direct and central. Penalty to SA and they go wide and the powerful Frankie Horne has some room to go over. 12-0 to SA. They are steamrolling these Fijians. Drinks. ‘VIVA LAS VEGAS’...a classic to keep the fans amused.

Fiji making some very uncharacteristic errors here and this is SA’s for the taking. Remarkable sequence of play, the ball pinging between the sides and eventually Joeli Lutumailagi gets over. SA look flat out on their feet. 12-7 to the Boks. Afrika is stretchered off and that looks serious. Hooter goes and SA are shattered, Ryder makes a break and it looks like is in but no he checks and eventually a forward pass means it’s plate time for SA. Finally they beat Fiji this season!

Result: South Africa 12 Fiji 7

19:10

First it's South Africa v Fiji for the Plate and 12 valuable points on offer. SA have played 4..lost 4 against the South Sea-ers (probably not a real word..been a long weekend alright). South Africa have clicked though the gears and the ultra competitive Paul Treu sniffs a win.

Aww how sweet...USA Captain Kevin Swiryn just proposed to his gf on the big screen. She says ‘yes please’ and it’s a touching Valentine’s moment. Out with the lads later though Kev?

19:05

Interesting info ahead of the big New Zealand v Samoa final later...

NZ v Samoa head to head, 24-7 plus 2 draws in all IRB Sevens, 5-0 in Cup Finals

Samoa won last two games: 24-14 in Wellington, 24-22 in George, although NZ 24-12 in Dubai final

NZ's 54th final, W37 L16. Samoa P15, W3, L11

19:00

Bowl Final – France v USA

France’s Besson curves around his US opponent and feeds Demas for a French score. 5-0. Emerick has been massive for the hosts today, driving it up the middle loving the contact. ‘Polar Bear’ Hawkins goes blind for the US and scores! 5-5. Dodgy grounding that though? Great work from Emerick, cutting inside and spying Edwards motoring up on his shoulder with the latter going in from 50m. 14-7. Half-time. Can see an Elvis is jiving to the interval music.

Bad missed tackle by Barnard on Letaief and the French hit back. US still up 14-10. Barnard makes amends with a 60m burst, phenomenal clearing out by Emerick and it’s an easy score for Hawkins, 21-10 to the US. Great work from Besson and Acebes gives Germain a try for France. 21-17 to the US though. French sleeping and that’s surely it for the USA with Edwards breaking, Swiryn supporting and Malifa scoring.

Result: France 17 USA 26

18:43

‘The Boss’ aka Bruce Springsteen pelts out as USA make their way onto the pitch. They face some France for some Bowl ‘Hardware’ as the US commentators are saying. Have noticed there isn’t much security here and some punter with a Stars & Stripes flags runs on with the US team...he’s chased off by the US Eagle mascot though...fairly amusing scenes.

France beat USA last weekend in the Bowl QFs but this is a different Eagles team. Pumped up with a vociferous crowd behind them.

18:39

Scots enjoying picking their Shield up with some glamourous Las Vegas showgirls to their sides...IRB CEO Mike Miller looks a tad uncomfortable next to them. Loosen up and enjoy MM!

18:37

Shield Final – Japan v Scotland

David Tait, a Sale Shark in England, broke a tackle in midfield showing good strength for a try. Conversion by Jericevich. 7-0. Japan pull out to the blindside, float a long pass to Kaoru Matsushita who levels things up at Sam Boyd Stadium, 7-7 at the break. Take a breather fellas.

Lee Jones skins the Japanese defence on the outside showing some goodish toe to take the Scots out to a 12-7 lead. That’s why he’s in the Scotland U20s. Kinloch shows and goes, breaks a tackle and races away for a two try cushion for the Scots. 17-7. Doesn’t look like Japan will get their first win over the Scots. At least they have experienced a Las Vegas final though. Scotland’s second Shield of the season.

Result: Scotland 17 Japan 7

18:23

Yuta, Tokyo:
Lets go Japan, lets beat Scotland in the Shield! When is Sevens coming to Japan?! New Zealand to win their third event of the year I hope!!

Women's International Invitational Sevens: USA took China on in the final of this one and it's good to see the crowd stick around watching this. These two met on Friday with the USA winning 19-12.

Different story today though with Zhao Xin Qi opening the scoring for the Chinese with Guon Qi Shi following up with another minutes later. USA enjoy good possession but can't break China down. Congrats Ladies.

Result USA 0 China 10

18:03

Dallen’s USA 7s Banter : It’s been an awesome vibe throughout the stadium today UR7s. Great event this. The USA bunny girls next to me are getting excited for the Bowl final later. They have dominated the camera time today! The Samoan fans have been partying hard too. Tonight is going to another belter, I can smell it.

17:57

Shield Final - Japan v Scotland
Bowl Final - USA v France
Plate Final - Fiji v South Africa

and of couse

Cup Final - New Zealand v Samoa..coming up at approx 18:46 local time

17:55

Bowl Update: The USA delighted their fans by winning through to the Bowl final against France. Matt Hawkins scored twice as the Eagles won a physical semi final against last year's USA Sevens Cup champions Argentina. France overwhelmed Chile in their semi-final. If only they could cut loose like that more often.

17:51

New Zealand get their chance to have their revenge on Samoa from last weekend in Wellington in tonight's final. It's going to me HUGE later, stay tuned for that folks!

17:49

Cup SF – Samoa v Australia

Aussies start where they left off against Fiji. Big hits and suffocating their opposition. Situati makes yards spins out of a tackle and gives the Aussies the lead! This is gripping stuff as the Samoans come back with Mai making the ball do the work and giving Fa’osiliva a try. He has impressed all weekend. Brilliant kick from Lui, he’s the best kicker in business in Sevens. 7-5 to Samoa. Hooter goes. What do you 'ave Australia...? Black Eyed Peas pumps out...BOOM BOOM BOOM.

This 18 year old Situati (only his second tournament) is a real find, stopping, starting and skipping round his man to get the Aussies back into the lead! 12-7 to OZ. Mai is doing his best for Samoa here, superb vision with a left-footed chip but the bounce is cruel for Pesamino. Mai at the heart of it again jinking in and out then putting in Pesamino for his 9th of the weekend. Lui’s kick hits the post but is over! 14-12 to Samoa. Aussies press but Lui denies Sills. It’s over. Samoa go through and the Polynesian fans go wild!

Result: Samoa 14 Australia 12

17:34

Australia and Samoa. Who wants to meet NZ in the final? Some stats from Nick Jordan.

Last time Australia made a final they beat Samoa in the semi, Brisbane 2002 (won 29-5). They went on to win tournament 28-0 v NZ. Team included Mat Rogers, Wendell Sailor and Lote Tuqiri. They have only made three other semis since then (LA 2005 v NZ, Paris 2006 v Samoa, Wellington 2008 v NZ). Samoa haven't won an IRB event for a fair while now. Is this their time? Think its going to be tough for Australia to maintain their form from earlier. Make me eat humble pie 'Green n Gold'.

17:30

Cup SF- New Zealand v Kenya

Kenya right up for this and swarm New Zealand from the off. Crowd love it. Injera playing centrally and causing mischief. They work it the short side and the barrel like Odour smashes through for a 7-0 start. Lawrence breaks for NZ, gives it to Baker but that is a magnificent Kenyan tackle to shut the NZ out. Lawrence gets a breakaway for New Zealand right at the end of the first half to even this up at 7-7. Drinks time lads.

Brilliant turnover from Forbes – how often does he do that. Kiwis get a penalty and they go quickly and lovely hard yards from Raikabula who pops to Baker gives NZ the lead. 14-7. End-to-end stuff this as Cama is almost away for NZ. Stowers limps off for the Kiwis, looks nasty. Big hits from NZ pinning Kenya back and they are forcing it to much. Game over. Kiwis get it and Baker is held but Raikabula has enough room. 21-7 to NZ and it is the final for them.

Result: New Zealand 21 Kenya 7

17:17

Crowd really fizzing now as clash of epic proportions takes place. Kenya/New Zealand, Cup semi-final. Forget the stats this could be close and New Zealand know form past experiences to never take these Africans for granted. Match-ups all over the shop. Injera/Stowers, Forbes/Kayange, Asego/Baker. Who is going to make it to the final here in Las Vegas, Nevada? Do Kenya have the belief in their 500th IRB match?

17:08

Plate SF – Wales v Fiji

Fiji out to make a point after that thrashing by Australia earlier. They press hard and they think Votu is over but no, great ‘D’ by Wales. He’s over shortly after though getting on the end of a sweeping move. Kolinisau is now making room for Vucago who goes in. 12-0. That’s more like it from Fiji. Brilliant hands and vision from all 7 of them – including a sensational one handed spin pass from Vucago – sees Lutumailagi get in. 17-0.

Welsh hold them out at the start but Vucago is dazzling with some feet and gets in and soon after William Ryder explodes off the mark past Harries for Fiji’s fifth. Wales press but it doesn’t stop another Fiji breakout with Votu giving Rokobuli a pass and a finish. Fiji to meet old foes SA later in the final.

Result: Wales 0 Fiji 32

16:49

Boks will meet either Fiji or Wales in the Plate final...

16:45

Plate SF - England v South Africa

Out fly South Africa from the traps showing good physicality to a shell shocked England. Kyle Brown is everywhere and his neat dummy does enough for the try. 7-0. Horne works a turn over for SA and then they use the width expertly and Hunt flies in on the wing. 12-0. All SA and when du Preez breaks, Brown is on hand again for another try. 17-0. Gollings bags one back for England chipping behind Afrika. 17-7.

England should be fired up after some feisty words from Gollings at half-time. But no the Boks are just more aggressive and a simple line move sees a try for hunt. 22-7. Boks get one from the head at a scrum and Afrika showing sublime speed pins his ears and dreadlocks back to speed past Caprice. 27-7 to England. Norton pulls one back for England but its an early shower for them

Result: South Africa 27 England 14

16:33

* 'Wonderwall' by Oasis bangs out here at Sam Boyd Stadium...hasten to add I told the DJ earlier today to play it when England were on the field...he listens!

16:28

Twitter from England coach Ben Ryan:

'Lost qf in sudden death to Kenya. Tries by wade, gollings & norton. Had more than enough opportunities to win; now need to win plate sf v SA'

Both Ryan and Boks coach Paul Treu already know they have got 6 WS points in the bag but they are after a maxium of 12 that is on offer for winning the Plate. England/South Africa take to the paddock.

16:10

Todd, Auckland New Zealand:
Big chance for New Zealand now with Fiji out? Can't take the Kenyans for granted though. Wellington then Vegas...really is party time on the IRB Sevens isn't it Robin!

15:53

Shield Update : Canada have had a weekend to forget and they have been dismissed by Japan 17-5. Shomen, Tsuiki, and Matsushita going over. That’s what can be expected with such a young Canadian side, just no consistency. That will hopefully come. Scotland ended Guyana’s weekend courtesy of a 31-7 win over Guyana. Tough learning curve for Guyana but the Caribbean champions will surely learn from this experience. I’ll hopefully catch up with their coach Joe Whipple later for a beer to see what he made of the weekend.

15:41

Some reaction from Australian coach Michael O'Connor:

'We've got some experience now with these guys all having played four tournments and they are a really enthusiatic young bunch. We played some smart Sevens and tackled ferociously ...we got a bit of a 'touch up' (thrashing?!) last week by them and if you make them run, they will hurt you. If you pressure them they will make mistakes.'

15:02

Allen, Kenya:
Wish I was with the fans in Vegas! Shuuja are back with great win against England. We beat New Zealand twice last year...bring them on!

15:01

Keep the emails coming in guys...

livetext@ur7s.com

And tweet me boy and girls.....

@UR7sLiveText

14:51

Dallen’s USA 7s Banter : Howdy UR7s readers! What a day already. The Kenyan fans are buzzing after their dramatic win against England. I was in the heart of the fans as they danced in celebration. And what about Australia? Great to see them back. Was a blinding night at the Hard Rock Hotel last night guys...Vegas is buzzing!

Break in play...waiting for a Parade of Nations...where are they though?! No-one really knows whats happening.

14:48

Cup semi-finals later:

New Zealand v Kenya
Samoa v Australia

And Plate semi-finals:

South Africa v England
Wales v Fiji

14:44

Wowy! Australia deserve that. They have made a steady improvements throughout the last few tournaments and a big win was always around the corner. UR7s' Nick Jordan tells me it's Australia's first win over Fiji in a Cup playoff match since Tokyo 2001. Broke a streak of 8 Cup playoff wins by Fiji. Reward for Mick O'Connor's youngters.

14:39

Cup QF – Fiji v Australia

Aussies pushing the Fijians back deep here and they must use this ball and possession. Good offloading from the ‘green n gold’ and Karauria-Henry is hitting Bernard Foley nicely. 7-0! Crazy crazy long pass from Fiji’s Kolinisau, it’s intercepted and goes through Australia’s hands nicely. Kauauria-Henry runs horizontally and Foley slices an acute line. 14-0 to Australia! Aussies really fronting up physically and that’s a big hit from McCutcheon, it’s loose and Situati picks up to score! 21-0 to Australia. Shock time?!

Fiji make changes early on, but Ryder is left on the bench, surely they need some spark from him. It’s scrappy and the Aussies won’t mind that. More big Aussies defence this time from Situati, and McCutcheon lumbers away showing great power and a big handoff. 28-0. Aussies tactics working a dream here, Fiji just haven’t left their half. What a turnaround from Mick O’Connor’s men. Bole finally gets Fiji on the board but it’s a mere consolation.

Result: Australia 28 Fiji 7

14:24

Who will Samoa meet? It will be either Fiji or Australia. The Aussies looked decent yesterday and were denied a possible draw against New Zealand by a teeny weeny forward pass. Australia haven’t beaten the Fijians for five years though, which doesn’t bode that well. How will they break down the Fiji’s fortress? The pacific islanders made the most tackles yesterday then other nation (53). Defence wins titles.

14:19

Cup QF – Samoa v Wales

Good start for Paul John’s Wales, dominating field position and some clever work from the hugely impressive Tipuric allows pacey Bramwell in for the opener. Wales 5-0 up. Samoa start to bring the heat with some big hits and Mai and Lui directing traffic nicely. Fa’osilivia is dummy scissoring and scoring to even things up with the half-time hooter going.

Bramwell should have kept in hand but kicks away and that is food and drink for the Samoans who breakout and Mikaele almost hashes it up but finds Fa’osiliva who canters in for his second. 12-5 to Samoa. Class from Samoa’s Otto who fake kicks it then turns Alex Walker inside out. 17-5 and that’s it I’d say? The Welsh pull one back through Shellard but it’s not enough. Samoa through.

Result: Samoa 17 Wales 5

14:06

Wow truely a thriller that. Delight for the Kenyan fans...all 2000 of them. They meet New Zealand in the Cup semi-finals later.

Samoa/Wales now. Pesamino was massive for Samoa yesterday going over for 8 tries. He is obviously the major threat for Wales here. It’s Wales’ first step into the quarter-finals this season. Samoa has very strong record against the Welsh only losing three times to them in 18 IRB Sevens outings. Samoa hungry for a title after two losing finals (Dubai and George) thus far this season.

14:01

Cup QF – England v Kenya

Rodwell steals a wonderful line-out against the throw and England move it and are offloading nicely out the tackle. Gollings creates a 2 on 1 and hits speedster Wade and the 18-year-old flyer rounds his man and skins the sweeper. 7-0 –boom. Kenya build it with Injera showing strength. Tap penalty and Weru has it and ghosts in under the H. 7-7. Turnover from Brightwell, and class from Wade, the England winger stepping inside Injera then popping to Gollings. 14-7 to England. Drinks.

Old school Kenya that. Magic. Odour takes the contact and offloads to Injera who rounds Caprice with ease. That’s his 20th of the season. 14-14. Kenya definitely being more physical here especially taking on England’s smaller backs. Kenya steal a line-out, surely it’s a try but no Don Barrell makes a hit. Caprice makes a sensational break for Eng, finding Norton and England are over. 21-14 to England. Kenya come back and Injera sucks in three men, they go wide and Kayange is in. Kick is good. 21-21...Extra-Time, Golden-Try...

Kenya hold up Turner and they force themselves a scrum. England free-kick for early Kenyan hit. Oooh Injera almost intercepts but England survive. Still in the balance. Ball goes loose from scrum and Kenya have it and Nyambu scores. Kenya win!

Result: England 21 Kenya 26 ET

13:37

Right New Zealand will meet the winner of England/Kenya now. England’s young guns did enough yesterday and showed good ticker to comeback from early deficits in games. They have bags full of pace but can they consistently secure a decent amount of ball? Kenya aren’t really in their groove here in the US. But you know they can turn it on in an instance here, they love the underdog tag.

13:35

Cup QF – New Zealand v South Africa

Stowers, the major strike weapon for NZ, is going for some early bursts up the middle but is heald back. Stowers is now causing a nuisance at the breakdown and Tokula goes down the line and that’s super support from Souness. 5-0. Now its Baker going for NZ and he just does Stick on the outside like the SA captian wasn’t there. 12-0. POW. Tokula (NZ) pole-axes Afrika and will take 2 mins in the Bin. Half-time hooter reverberates.

SA just look a bit rigid and they are knocking on uncharacteristically. NZ looking the more threatening here qwith Tokula, now back from the naughty step, looking elusive. Boks are back in this one, switching and then Mbiyozo offloads to Afrika who races home for his 4th of the weekend. 12-5 to NZ still. Boks come knocking bt NZ keeps knocking them down. The clocks running and they have a penalty. Again they are thwarted though. New Zealand go through.

Result: New Zealand 12 South Africa 5

13:15

New Zealand v South Africa. Possibly the most intriguing cup quarter-final on show today. Sure, New Zealand are big favourites but don’t write off the IRB Sevens champions just yet. The Boks were unlucky against Fiji yesterday and for me are showing some of their old form. Can they get into Gordon Tietjen’s expertly functioning unit? These two met last week in Wellington last week with the Kiwis winning 19-7. If SA can pull it off it could really open it up at the top of the IRB Series.

13:14

Bowl Update : Canada failed to rekindle their form from last weekend and lost out to 19-12 to France. Acebes, Canviet, and Besson the scorers for Les Bleus. Chile stunned Japan 19-7 with captain Pablo Llorens impressing. Argentina had a little too much for the Scots winning 14-7 and USA smashed Guyana 33-12 with Paul Emerick getting over the line for a brace.
So....

Shield semi-finals: Canada v Japan, Scotland v Guyana
Bowl semi-finals: France v Chile, Argentina v USA

12:47

Cup Quarter-Finals:

New Zealand v South Africa
England v Kenya
Samoa v Wales
Fiji v Australia

Bowl Quarter-Finals:

Canada v France
Chile v Japan
Argentina v Scotland
USA v Guyana

12:42

Big thanks to former USA Eagle and UR7s columnist Dallen Stanford for giving crowd and general updates from around the ground yesterday. He even managed time to head onto the pitch and win the US Championship Club Series Final (played on the main pitch here) in between reporting. Hero. Don’t know if he’s still in bed but he will be keep me filled in on all shenanigans for today.

12:39

Adam, London:
Robin, can’t believe you swung the Vegas gig? Dominating the roulette tables. Sleep much? England or South Africa to catch Fiji, Samoa, and New Zealand knapping

Adam I was tucked up in bed with a hot water bottle watching the NBA All-Star Slam Dunk contest at 10:00pm thanks very much....;)

12:35

Weather Update: Another little beauty. Hot, clear, dry, cloudless. Perfecto. Is it anything else on the IRB Sevens World Series?

12:21

Admin time. 16 team here who all played in four groups of four yesterday.

First this morning we we have the four Bowl quarter-finals first. The Bowl competition is the secondary event today for the sides finishing third and fourth in their groups yesterday.

Following that of course is the Cup quarter-finals, consisting of yesterday’s top eight sides.

11:47

Who will grab the major title? Fiji, Samoa, New Zealand or England? Or someone else...South Africa or Kenya? Who knows. You’d be a nuts to suggest a winner yet...but this is Sin City and gambling is pre-requisite... so who do you think will win?
