So the IOC decided its two recommendations would be Rugby Sevens and golf from the list of seven sports vying for an Olympic spot, but what does this mean for the sport?

As Jacquess Rogges pointed out, neither of the two sports are guaranteed a place at the 2016 Olympic and this decision will be made on October 9 in Copenhagen - how frustrating!

With squash and karate going through the same process in 2005 only to not receive the required two-thirds vote from the 106-member assembley, are we getting carried away with this announcement?

It appears that Sevens got in early doors in the voting procedure with Golf just scraping through which might give an indicator into the regard 7s is felt by the IOC.

I agree we need to be content but wary that it might not go 7s way but so far so good. The hard work from everyone seems to be paying off.

It is not decided yet where the 2016 Games will beplayed, and the decision of the General Assemblee of the IOC is to be taken by 50% plus one of the votes.
The recent RWC for girls is one of the strong points of the Rugby campaign, so we must start looking to girls rugby with a positive approach. There is a lot of people that still think rugby is only for studs...

Though no decision on where the Olympics will be in 2016 yet, got to think there would be no better place for the game of 7s to announce its arrival on the biggest stage of them all in the 'windy city' of Chicago. If the USA at home, in the Olympics, competing for a medal does not capture the USA sporting minds...........well

agreed on Chicago - would probably be best for the sport and wake the sleeping rugby giant that is the US of A. Having said that, 7s in Rio would make for a pretty spectacular party!

Hey USA are the old olympic Rugby champions, beating France 1924, (15 a side champions but still ; ) ) so yes it would be great if it was held in US.
look forward it being held here in Copenhagen, so that I can follow the decision more closely and also there might be some rugby big shots present.

and it wouldn't surprise me if the USA come out of 2016 with a 7s medal...
