With qualification for the National well underway, and sides like Milwaukee, Belmont Shore, Denver Barbarians throwing down early challenges, i was wondering who people thought was going to take the National title this year?
Are the Gents of Aspen going to repeat? Will Nova and their strong English contingent finally get it done, what about the boys from San Diego OMBAC?
Let me know your thoughts and why

its been a great start to the US season, from what i have seen and read, the standard of competition is higher than ever this year which is great news for the future of 7s rugby in the US. I think its wide open this year, but Belmont Shore look very strong having played 2 and won 2 tournaments. With Englishman (ex northampton saints) Rob Laird backing up the experienced US international Dallen Stanford they will be hard to stop, not sure sides like Milwaukee, Dallas Harlequins, Denver Barbarians have the experience to go all the way though they will be difficult to in the group stages for some of the bigger sides. My thoughts are that it will be one of Belmont, Aspen (they will come good), OMBAC (young side, couple more months they will be there), Old Blue (Tom Drewe is supposed to be something pretty special) and NOVA (who i hear are giving it one final go and getting over the nationals hurdle)
Sitting on the fence slightly but it really does look like its going to be cracking tournament in San Francisco in August 15,16th - incidentally the same day as the Middlesex 7s one of the oldest tournaments in the world. Something quite fitting about the 2 tournaments being on the same weekend for me. Young and Old - Past and Present.....oooppps did i say that?

On the basis of the report on the Cape Fear Sevens I don't think Life University can be overlooked it seems their impressive 15's ability is being transferred into 7s. Obviously the experience of their coach Tui Osbourne is helping then to beat teams with the experience and ability of NOVA and the potential of OMBAC.

Yeah it looks like it has been a pretty competitive season thus far with the top sides squeezing all their resources to assemble the strongest squads they can possibly bring in.
Agree with Tom Griff, Life University have crept under the radar with wins at the Renegade and of course the big one last weekend at Cape Fear. Very impressive and with skipper Garry Sullivan pulling the strings at fly half they look good. Nova must be gutted, narrowly losing out over the last few weeks, but I’m expecting their fortunes to turn, no doubt helped by their star-studded back line.
Agree with The Judge about Belmont Shore, their win in Vegas have marked them out as genuine contenders for the big one in San Fran. Don’t write off Old Blue too, with their Internationals too. Picking a winner is almost too tough to call...it’s going to be an interesting few weeks.
